Friday 04/28/14

Hi! Today was a fun arts and craft day! We finished our essay and got to publish our book covers! We finished up our Earth Day craft "Give a Hoot, Don't Pollute" owl poems. Lastly we were inspire by Eric Carle, author and illustrator of  The Tiny Seed (story we read in class) and painted our own paper and then cut pieces to make pedals for our flower diagrams as an extension to our Science and Reading comprehension. It was a great and fun way to end the week!

Also, on a sad note, today was Ms. Lonis last day of student teaching. It has been a true joy to have Ms. Lonis in the classroom. She worked well with the students and it really was a big help to have 2 teachers all day long. We will miss her so much! Next Friday, she will be at our Writers Celebration (invites to come on Monday) if you would like to personally say good-bye and thank her for all the hard work she has done.

This weekend please make sure to complete book reports. I spoke to the children about the quality of writing they need to have when completing book reports. We want to make sure they write complete sentences and use their own words to express their ideas (NO COPYING FROM BOOK). Also, NO test folders were sent home today.

Have a great weekend!
Ms. Juarez

Hi! Today was an exciting day in Room 104! As an extension to Earth Day and our Science unit on plants we planted a Mother's Day Surprise! The students enjoyed getting hands-on with the dirt and seeds. We also made an Acrostic Earth Day poem activity! In Math we continued to work with recycled material and constructed a 3D Tower! Then the students used the tower to analyze and represent the shapes they used in data through a tally chart and bar graph!

Tomorrow is test day! Please make sure your child knows their words and his ready to be tested!

SPRING BREAK!!!!!!!!!
Dear Parents,

Spring Break is finally here! Now all we need is warmer weather! I want to give a special THANKS to The Curtis family! They sent in a Spring goodie bag and a butterfly craft for each student! The students enjoyed making butterflies! It was perfect since after break we will be studying butterflies!

Over break I am asking that you continue to read with your child every night! Take trips to the library and checkout books! We are testing for reading levels at the end of May so practice makes progress! Your child will need to complete 3 Book Reports for Monday, April 21st 2014!

Also, when we return from break we will be working on creating a 3D Geometry Project by combining shapes! We NEED YOUR HELP! Please assist your child by looking for and reusing recyclable materials that are the shapes we learned in class. Such as a tissue box, cereal box, soup cans, pop cans, toilet/paper towel rolls, and anything else you find at home. Please make sure all material is clean and rinse if needed, so your child can work with these materials. We don’t want you to buy anything! We want to reuse and recycle in honor of Earth Day, April 22nd! Please use the  checklist to ensure your child has found all the needed shapes! All shapes and checklist are due on Monday, April 21st 2014.

Thanks for your help and have a wonderful Spring Break!

~Ms. Juarez
